SALEM, Ore. -- A Lane County inmate has been plotting to arrange the murder of the prosecutor and witnesses in his case, and planning an escape, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s office.
Detectives have been working to disrupt the plot as well as protect the witnesses and prosecutor, according to authorities. Some witnesses are in law enforcement custody and others are not.
The inmate is already incarcerated on felony charges, including homicide.
Further details, including the names of the inmate and those believed to be targeted, were not released due to the ongoing nature of the investigation.
Anyone with further information regarding this case was asked to contact Det. Sgt. Cliff Harrold at (541) 682-4311.
In 2007, a Lane County Deputy DA was also the target of a murder plot. The suspect in that case, Ronald Louis Casebeer, was prosecuted for attempted murder and eventually sentenced to 40 years in prison.
