Missing mushroom picker found dead in Tillamook State Forest

TILLAMOOK COUNTY, Ore. – Authorities on Thursday morning recovered the body of a man who was reported missing on Monday after he didn't return from picking mushrooms in the Tillamook State Forest.

Michael Scott Lund, 49, was found Wednesday night about 400 yards from where he was last seen. Lund's friend reported him missing on Monday and said Lund's last known location was in the area of Drift Creek Forest Road near milepost 2 on Highway 6, about 30 miles east of Tillamook.

Portland Mountain Rescue found Lund's body but the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office was unable to recover it until Thursday because he was about 70 feet down a steep ravine.

Authorities said it appears Lund fell down the ravine. The preliminary cause of death appears to be head trauma.

The Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Mountain Wave Search & Rescue, Pacific Northwest Rescue and the Oregon Department of Forestry assisted in the search for Lund.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office at 503-815-1911 or 911 if necessary.
