53-year-old cyclist hit and killed by box truck on North Interstate Avenue

PORTLAND, Ore. -- A 53-year-old man was hit and killed by a box truck Monday morning in the 7600 block of North Interstate Avenue.

Alan Izi Marsan was riding his bike north on Interstate Avenue in the bicycle lane. The 38-year-old truck driver was also driving north on the same street and when he turned right onto Farragut Street, he hit Marsan in the bike lane.

The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. He has not been arrested or cited at this time. Once the investigation has been completed, it will be forwarded to the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office for consideration of potential charges.

Police said "impairment" does not seem to have been a contributing factor, meaning neither the driver nor Marsan were intoxicated at the time of the crash.

Northbound Interstate Avenue was closed for several hours while the Major Crash Team conducted an investigation.
