PORTLAND, Ore. — A large truck hauling a dumpster crashed into the backyard swimming pool of a southwest Portland home owned by Portland Trail Blazers forward Evan Turner on Wednesday morning.

Portland Fire and Rescue said the driver was navigating a hairpin turn. Instead of turning, the truck drove straight, crashed over an embankment and straight into the pool.

The driver of the truck, who has not been identified, was rescued from the crash. He suffered serious injuries and was taken to Oregon Health and Science University Medical Center.

Turner's chef was on the property and literally jumped in to help, after the crash, getting to the driver until firefighter paramedics arrived.

The cab of the truck was partially submerged in the pool and the driver was pinned inside the vehicle between the steering wheel and center console. One crew member had to hold his head up out of the water while the rest of the rescue crew used the jaws of life and were able to free the driver from the truck.

The driver was exposed to the cold water in the pool for 15-20 minutes. The extent of his injuries is unknown, but in these cold temperatures, exposure is an issue.

Turner said he hopes the driver will be OK.

"I wasn't aware that the driver was injured or how badly, but I'm obviously grateful that the first responders were able to rescue him," he said. "I hope and pray he'll be fine."

Heavy machinery was being brought in to extract the truck.  But as of Thursday mid-day, a crane expected to arrive had not. Turner joked before Wednesday night's game at Moda Center that he was looking for ideas on getting the truck out.

"Like everybody else they're trying to figure out how to get it out of my pool and up there (to the street), so if anybody has any  ideas I'll trade that for tickets or something," said Turner.

The crash happened in the 1500 block of Southwest Upper Hall Street.

Turner also recorded a short message about the crash.
