Hiker who went missing overnight in Gorge found safe

BRIDAL VEIL, Ore. – A hiker who went missing overnight in the Columbia River Gorge was found safe Sunday morning.

The hiker, a 19-year-old woman, was with a group of friends on the Angel’s Rest Trailhead when she got separated at around 11 p.m. Saturday.

She made contact with her friends early Sunday morning but her battery died. She was reported missing to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office just after 8:30 a.m.

Just before 11 a.m., a man hiking in the area found the woman and walked her back to the trailhead. She was cold and wet but not hurt, according to the sheriff’s office. She was returned to the trailhead just before 11:30 a.m., where search and rescue crews met up with her.

The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind hikers to always be prepared to hike longer than anticipated, and bring adequate clothing, food and water.
