Group taking life jacket donations for Hagg Lake

GASTON, Ore. – A local group is working to make sure there are plenty of life jackets for people to use at Henry Hagg Lake after four family members drowned earlier this week.

Searchers found three bodies in the lake the day after a boy was found drowned on Monday.

None of the family members was wearing life jackets.

Safe Kids Washington County, a group dedicated to keeping kids in the community safe, puts life jackets for anyone to borrow at two different kiosks at Hagg Lake. They say even experienced swimmers can get into trouble on the water.

"You go down, you're trying to yell, you can't yell because you don't have any air and the only thing you can do is gasp," said Storm Smith with Safe Kids Washington County. "People have been known to drown in under a minute and do it quietly."

The group relies on donations. You can help by dropping off a check, or some life jackets, at any Washington County fire house.
