Morrison Bridge will be green and blue to honor Earth Day

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Morrison Bridge will be illuminated in green and blue on Saturday, April 22 in honor of Earth Day.

The bridge will also be lit Friday night, courtesy of Donate Life NW.

The Morrison Bridge is lit using 32 LEDs, which sometimes change color depending on the occasion. According to Multnomah County spokesman Mike Pullen, those bulbs will last 25 years if they run an average of eight hours a day.

The lighting helps Multnomah County highlight its environmental strides. The county is transitioning to renewable energy, and Multnomah County Chair Deborah Kafoury set a goal that by 2050 the county will only use renewable energy.

Pullen said it's an "action that aims to fulfill a pledge to our children and community’s future by providing clean air, a stable climate, and more equitable economic opportunities."

Morrison Bridge will be closed over the weekend as crews work on bridge repairs. That work is expected to last through October.
