East winds knock out power to thousands in Portland

PGE restores power after early morning winds

PORTLAND, Ore. -- Blustery east winds Monday morning have knocked out power to thousands of Portland General Electric customers.

The outages are centered in the Northeast Portland hills and the Glendoveer area of east Portland. Smaller outages were also reported in Clackamas and Yamhill counties.

KGW meteorologist Rod Hill says to expect blustery winds all day, with gusts to 45 mph.


Chapman Elementary School in Northwest Portland was without power early Monday morning, but district officials said school would go on as normal.

A tree went down on Northwest Barnes Road near St. Vincent's hospital, thought traffic was not heavily affected.
