Woman found dead, man charged with murder after standoff in SE Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. – A woman was found dead and a man was taken into custody about five hours after police responded to a disturbance in a Southeast Portland apartment early Monday.

Robert L. West, 28, faces one count of murder.

East Precinct officers responded to the scene about 2:40 a.m. after reports of a domestic situation, and say a relative called police, concerned about a woman and a man at the Alderwood Court Apartments, located near Southeast 174th Avenue and Alder Street.

Police believed West assaulted the woman overnight, and then refused to come outside.

The Portland Police Bureau Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) then responded. When officers entered the apartment, they found the woman, 26-year-old Lila F. Streeter, dead.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner determined Streeter died of homicidal violence.
