One person injured in gas-fueled fire at building near Highway 26

One burned in NW Portland fire

PORTLAND, Ore. – Firefighters knocked down a fire at a building in Northwest Portland Thursday afternoon.

One person was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital, according to Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue. That person's injuries were not immediately released.

The fire started in at Tosoh Quartz at 14000 NW Science Park Drive at around 4 p.m.

Crews evacuated the building and called for more backup and resources with second and third alarms. A TVF&R spokesperson said there were hydrogen and oxygen tanks on the outside of the building, which prompted crews to call in hazardous materials team.

TVF&R said the fire was gas-fueled and gas was filling up the building. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Black smoke could be seen from a distance.

Crews had the fire under control by 5:45 p.m.

It’s unclear how the fire started.
