Construction worker wounded in I-5 hit-and-run dies at hospital

Reckless drivers endanger roadside workers

WILSONVILLE, Ore -- A construction worker who was injured in an early morning hit-and-run crash on Interstate 5 last week has died at a hospital, Oregon State Police said.

Ronald Davis, 57, of Powell Butte, died of injuries he suffered in the June 6 crash. Davis worked for Knife River Construction.

Another worker, 20-year-old Antonio Bahena of Troutdale, was also hit and injured.

Police identified the driver as 27-year-old Colin Cook of Fairview. Cook was found and arrested a short time after the crash. He faces charges including hit-and-run and assault.

Oregon State Police officials said Cook was driving a box truck when he struck a pickup truck, injuring Davis and Bahena, and left the scene. Davis was critically injured and airlifted to a hospital.

Knife River Construction's president, Brian Gray, said Bahena suffered a concussion.
