Firefighters rescue man from Milwaukie house fire

MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- Firefighters rescued a man from inside a burning Milwaukie home early Sunday morning.

Firefighters were alerted to the fire, located in the 6500 block of Hemlock Street, after a man who was inside the home when it caught fire was able to escape and make it to a neighbor's house, who called 911.

When firefighters got to the house at about 5:30 a.m., it was engulfed in flame, with fire pouring out of three sides of the structure. While one crew fought the fire, two other crews entered the burning home to search for other persons inside the home.

The search crews crawled through the house, using infrared cameras to find the man inside. They quickly located him in a back bedroom and brought him out of the house. He was transported by ambulance to Kaiser Sunnyside Hospital in critical condition.

Two other people who were in the home were also taken to area hospitals.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
