Bear cub ventures into Rite Aid store in Ashland

Cub walks through the door and finally caught by local police.

ASHLAND, Ore. -- A little bear cub surprised shoppers when he somehow got inside a Rite Aid store in Ashland last weekend.

The cub, estimated to be only about a month old, was first spotted at a nearby hotel. Witnesses said nothing there held his interest, so he hopped out a window, crossed the street and wandered inside the store.

Customers captured video on their phones and snapped pictures until police arrived and scooped the little adventurer into a shopping basket.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife took over care of the cub until he can be moved to a rehab center or a zoo. Authorities said he cannot be placed back in the wild, because of his contact with humans.

There were no reported sightings of the cub's mother.
