PORTLAND -- Workers from Portland’s Mercy Corps headed to the Philippines to help with disaster relief Wednesday.
Mark Ferdig led a team of ten volunteers from around the world on a mission to aide communities devastated by Typhoon Haiyan.
The team intends to purchases water, generators and hygiene items from neighboring cities and countries when it arrives in the Far East.
“It's a desperate situation and people are taking desperate action to take care of themselves and their families,” said Ferdig. “I think that's what I'm going to see on the ground.”
