PORTLAND – The Portland Winterhawks won Game 1 of the Western Hockey League final against the Edmonton Oil Kings at the Moda Center Saturday 5-2.
The Hawks played to a sold-out crowd, according to Winterhawks.com.
The Winterhawks came out strong, scoring three goals in the first period.
The Oil Kings answered back with two quick goals in the second period, but couldn’t stop the Hawks, who scored two more to finish the game at 5-2.
The two teams meet again Sunday at the Moda Center at 5 p.m.
