SALEM -- Two public memorials were planned for the late Ben Westlund, the Oregon State Treasurer who died last week of cancer.
A Central Oregon businessman, Westlund, 60, was elected to the treasurer post in 2008 after 12 years in the Oregon legislature.
A public memorial was scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. in the House Chamber the State Capitol.
The family asks that in lieu-of-flowers, donations be made to Ben Westlund Memorial Fund at any U.S. Bank branch. The money will go to the Opportunity Foundation of Central Oregon. The non-profit provides assistance to people with developmental disabilities.
Any written eulogies or other correspondence that is sent to the Treasurer's office will be forwarded to the family.
A memorial service also was scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. in Bend, in the Riverhouse Conference Center.
