STEVENSON, Wash. – A hiker died after falling about 90 feet in the Wind River canyon near Carson, Wash., police said.
Debbie Scott, 53, was hiking Friday with a companion on a narrow trail that leads to an area with natural hot springs known as the “Hot Holes” when the accident occurred.
Investigators were told that Scott was traversing the narrow trail directly above a 90 foot cliff when she slipped and fell to the rocks below.
Rescuers rushed to the area but said Scott had already perished once they reached her.
“This is a very tragic incident for Ms Scott’s family, friends, and our community,” said Undersheriff Dave Cox with the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office. “We are very appreciative of the many resources that responded to this event to assist with the timely recovery of Ms Scott from the Wind River canyon.”
He added that investigators were still working to piece together all the details that led to her deadly fall.
