ONTARIO, Ore. (AP) -- The Department of Corrections says a warning shot was needed to stop a fight in the recreation yard at an Eastern Oregon prison.
Spokeswoman Liz Craig says three inmates got into the fight Wednesday evening at the Snake River Correctional Institution.
Guards used pepper spray when the men did not follow orders to stop.
When that failed to end it, a warning shot was fired from the tower overlooking the yard.
Oregon State Police are investigating the fight that resulted in one inmate needing treatment for an unspecified injury.
The prison located near the Idaho state line is the largest in Oregon. It houses almost 3,000 adults.
