PORTLAND – Vandals have damaged more than 30 TriMet shelters in Portland in the past week.

The shelters, most located in Southeast Portland but some also along Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway, had glass smashed out of them, TriMet spokesperson Roberta Altstadt said.

In at least some of the cases, it appeared the vandals used a pellet gun or a sling shot to shatter the glass.

Some had been repeatedly smashed out, and TriMet finally replaced them with metal panels.

The estimated cost to repair the shelters was between $16,000 and $32,000, TriMet said.

Anyone with information about the vandalism was asked to call police. TriMet was also offering a reward of up to $1000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case.
