VANCOUVER -- A Mountain View High School graduate recovering from a coma after being assaulted in California last fall is back home.
Vancouver native 21-year-old Tyler Burton landed in Vancouver via medical transport around 3 p.m.
Just a few weeks ago, the Vancouver man was in a coma, after being badly beaten following a Halloween party in Chico, California.
His family and friends feared Burton would never wake up. But he did. He will continue rehab in Vancouver.
“I had to come to grips with God is in control, and I really believe he was going to die. They put the skull cap back on and he kept doing better. It was awesome,” Kimberly Hash, Tyler’s mother said.
His stepdad says Burton is in a lot of pain, but in good spirits.
“Probably the worst Hell I’ve ever been through. I don’t ever want to have anything to do with something like that ever again, because we thought we were losing him,” Roddy Hash said. “Getting on the plane he said, ‘is there going to be champagne?’ He comes up with things. He’s talking in full sentences. We’re not supposed to have any of that, so he’s remembering everybody, talking a lot, so it’s great."
Burton attended Shasta College in Redding.
