VANCOUVER -- A Vancouver teen has died from injuries she suffered in a crash that split a car in half early Monday morning, police said.

Police received the report of a crash at about 2 a.m. on Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard, near 123rd Avenue, said Sgt. Patrick Johns of the Vancouver Police Department.

The car had hit a pole and was in two pieces when officers and medical responders arrived. The two women inside were taken to Peace Health Southwest.

Police announced Tuesday that the driver, 19-year-old Molly Mayo, died from her injuries.

The passenger, 19-year-old Caylie Nelson, was listed in satisfactory condition, Johns said.

A witness said the car was speeding and swerving just before it hit the pole. The car broke apart on impact. Investigators said the occupants of the car had been drinking before the crash.
