VANCOUVER -- A man posing as a contractor used a ladder to climb through the second-story window of a Vancouver home and stole between $6,000 and $8,000 worth of music equipment Thursday.

It happened near West 4th Plain Boulevard and Harney street.

A witness who was across the street said he saw the man who looked like a contractor make his way onto the roof of the home. The burglar even wore a work belt and used measuring tape.

The home belongs to Aaron Cain and Lisa Jackson. Jackson said the burglar likely made it through a second-story window she'd kept open in the stairwell.

"I left my second story window a little cracked open because it's been hot and we honestly didn't think anyone would climb up or do anything of that nature,” she said.

“I can't believe someone would do this, it really hurts, everything that I am. It's terrible,” Cain said.

The couple moved to the home only a few months ago. They said they moved there because they thought the equipment would be safe
