TUALATIN, Ore. -- A rollover crash in the Tualatin-Sherwood area Tuesday afternoon injured the driver and knocked out electricity for hundreds nearby, police said.
Crews were called at about 3:30 p.m. to the report of a crash at Southwest Scholls-Sherwood Road and Lebeau Road, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
At the scene, investigators learned a van left the roadway and sheared off a power pole before rolling several times down an embankment and landing on its roof.
"When we got here, it was a very dangerous scene. Power lines were down and we couldn't get to the patient," said Brian Barker of Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue. "So we called in a bunch of reinforcements."
Crews used a rope rescue system to pull the driver, 71-year-old Gary Gattucio, 75 feet up the embankment. He was taken by helicopter to Oregon Health & Science University with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
Police were investigating the cause of the crash and said alcohol did not appear to be a factor.
Nearly 300 customers lost power just after the crash, but was restored within hours.
