SALEM, Ore. (AP) -- A man arrested after an eight-hour standoff with officers in Marion County last month has been accused of aggravated murder in the shooting death of a woman.
The Salem Statesman Journal reports that prosecutors haven't decided yet whether to seek the death penalty against 24-year-old Dustin Michael Bryant.
Bryant was convicted in September of coercion and attempted assault against 23-year-old Adrian Bird. He was on probation and under orders not to contact Bird when police were called to her Turner apartment Nov. 22.
Officers said Bird was hit by Bryant's gunfire as they arrived and she tried to run. He then barricaded himself in the apartment with her 2-year-old daughter.
Officers eventually stormed the apartment and freed the child unharmed. The indictment was made public Wednesday.
