PORTLAND -- A  man was arrested Friday in connection with an attack on a bus driver in the St. Johns area Thursday night, according to a TriMet spokeswoman.

The operator of a Line 4 bus, parked at North Richmond Avenue and North Syracuse Street just before 11 p.m. Thursday, informed a passenger that he had not paid the correct fare, said Roberta Altstadt.

The man began yelling at the driver and then punched her in the face repeatedly, Altstadt said. The operator eventually fought off the suspect, who took off on foot.

A man who matched the suspect description, 39-year-old Daemon Bowman, was spotted in the area Friday night and arrested, police said.
