WILSONVILLE, Ore. -- One year ago, TriMet's Westside Express Service commuter trains began rolling down the tracks.
TriMet officials said 42% of the passengers on WES used to drive a car to work or to the store and now they're using the commuter rail line instead.
The WES connects the suburban cities of Beaverton, Tigard, Tualatin and Wilsonville and trains operate every 30 minutes during rush hour.
The commuter service cost $160 million to build.
There have been major complaints about the noise from the trains' horns. TriMet is currently working to create a quiet zone in Tualatin between Tonquin road and SW 95th Avenue.
TriMet is also working to refurbish two vintage rail cars to be used as spares.
