Do you know where your fruits and veggies came from?

Chances are, if you bought them at the grocery store, you have no idea.  New technology is now giving consumers a tool to trace their fresh produce back to its beginnings.

You can use it in most grocery stores across the region.  You just have to find produce with a HarvestMark logo on it.

Next to the HarvestMark label, you'll also find a product code. Enter that code at the HarvestMark website, either on your iPhone or computer, and you'll instantly find out where the produce originated, when it was harvested, and if there have been any product recalls.

"HarvestMark has the ability to get more information about your fresh produce, such as where when and how it was grown... information you can today get at a farmer's market, and we thought we would want to bring that to the grocery store," said company founder Elliot Grant.

There’s also an iPhone app you can download that allows you to actually scan the product code to get that information.

So far, about 100 produce brands across the USA use the traceability technology. You can find it on everything from asparagus to zucchini.  HarvestMark says it's adding new produce brands every week.
