PORTLAND -- Some honored guests enjoyed a special fishing trip on the Willamette River Sunday as hundreds volunteered for the “Take a Warrior Fishing” program.
The program helps local people show their appreciation for members of the military and their families.
“It's really important to give back to these people that have sacrificed,” said spokesman Jim Owens. “There are several people here that are in the transition program as wounded warriors. And all of us really care a great deal about these folks and want to help them with this transition because it's not easy."
There are nine such programs in the United States. Owens hopes to continue increasing that number.
