PORTLAND - It’s the brainchild of “What Not to Wear” host Stacy London and it’s transforming closets in more than 20 cities, including Portland.
Style for Hire brings a personal stylist to your closet starting at $60 an hour.
“I had a closet full of memories but I didn’t have a style and I didn’t have clothes I could wear,” said Style for Hire client Stacy English.
With the help of stylist Tracy Gaillard Pendergast, Stacy transformed her closet first paring down to just six items.
“I got rid of things I’d had for 20 years,” she recalled.
Pendergast then assessed Stacy’s body frame and selected clothing to emphasize her waist and legs. She says it’s the most common closet mistake, most people don’t buy clothing that’s right for their frame.
“They buy a single item they like but they don’t think about how it’s going to look from top to bottom.”
Another mistake is having clothes in your closet for the wrong reason.
“Closets are not hope chests. If it doesn’t fit it shouldn’t be in there,” Pendergast advised.
Alterations are another recommendation.
“Most women’s clothing is made for an hour glass figure and the majority of us aren’t built like that,” she explained.
English believes her Style for Hire investment has helped her brand herself in her corporate marketing job.
“When they talk about an integrated strategy, it means I have a look and I can mix and match all of my pieces and it’s like I can’t get it wrong,” she concluded with a smile.
