St. HELENS, Wash. – A horse was rescued after he fell into a chilly and fast-moving creek outside St. Helens Monday evening.
The horse, named Poco slid into Milton Creek at Welch Farms, along Pittsburg Rd., and couldn’t get out. The stream was rising as the animals’ owners called for help.
Poco was in the cold water for more than 45 minutes before crews were able to get him out. Firefighters with Columbia River Fire & Rescue made a sling out of fire hoses to pull him out.
A veterinarian checked over Poco after the rescue. He appeared to be okay, just very cold. They covered him in a special heating blanket in order to warm him back up slowly and safely.
