BEAVERTON, Ore. – The investigation into the fire at a Beaverton strip club has now expanded to include surrounding businesses, as well as other area strip clubs, police said.

The fire broke out around 7 p.m., Monday at the Pussycats Strip Club on SW Canyon Road and caused $65,000 in damage.

On Wednesday, Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue announced it had asked the Washington County Sheriff's Office to help in the investigation.  They spent all day Tuesday conducting interviews and sifting through the ashes for evidence.

"Businesses such as Pussycats have historically not been required to be inspected annually as part of TVF&R's inspection program. However, as a safety precaution following this fire, TVF&R plans to inspect the adjacent businesses in this strip mall, as well as similar establishments located elsewhere in Washington County," explained Karen Eubanks, a spokeswoman for TVF&R.

Witnesses said flames were shooting out of the roof and heat from the fire snapped some power lines.  Surrounding roads were closed off as firefighters battled the blaze.

“It was a pretty significant fire and it always adds to the problem when you have power lines down on the ground without the power company, so we had to be careful with that,” explained Lt. Steve Mills with Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue.

No one was hurt in the fire and everyone was able to safely evacuate the building.
