PORTLAND -- Officers found a stolen assault rifle inside a Northeast Portland home Friday, just after the home had been hit by gunfire, police said.
Police were called just before 9 p.m. to the report of a shooting in the 1700 block of Northeast Lombard Street, according to Sgt. Pete Simpson.
Officers at the scene found an apartment with several bullet holes through the front window, but none of the people inside had been injured. The suspects were not located.
Gang enforcement detectives found an SKS assault rifle and 100 rounds of ammunition inside the apartment. Investigators discovered the gun had been reported stolen.
Stewart Nathaniel Staples, 28, was arrested and lodged in the Multnomah on charges of theft and felon in possession of a firearm.
