PORTLAND -- A lawsuit filed by 12 Oregon National Guardsmen against an Iraq War contractor has gone to a Portland jury.

The jury of six men and six women were given the case at 4 p.m. Wednesday after a three-week trial.

They will decide whether Kellogg, Brown and Root is responsible for the soldiers' exposure to a harmful chemical, and whether that exposure led to their ongoing respiratory illnesses.

The soldiers argue that the fear of future illnesses is causing them to suffer emotional distress. Attorney Mike Doyle asked for a minimum of $1 million for each soldier.

Doyle says KBR knew about the risk and took no action.

KBR attorney Geoffrey Harrison the company did its duty, warning the U.S. Army that the soldiers were at risk.
