PORTLAND -- A gunman fired several rounds while trying to rob a bar early Monday morning in Southeast Portland.
Officers were dispatched about 3:50 a.m. to The Daily Planet at 11312 SE Powell Boulevard. The bartender said he had closed up and was walking to his car when a man approached him and told him to reopen the bar, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with the Portland Police Bureau.
The victim struggled to open the door and the suspect fired a round, Simpson said. After the bartender was able to open the door, the suspect fired a second round, then fled out the front door on foot east on Powell Blvd.
The suspect did not get any cash. A search that included a K9 team did not locate him.
The suspect was described as in his 20s, white, about 5-foot-10 with a slender build, wearing a black and gray checkered shirt and a mask.
Anyone with information was asked to call investigators at (503) 823-0405.
