Poll:
What would you do if you saw a woman getting mugged?

PORTLAND -- A Good Samaritan trying to help a woman who was being mugged was shot at in Southeast Portland Monday, police said.

Someone was trying to snatch the woman's purse near the TriMet bus shelter on SE Division and 92nd when the Good Samaritan intervened. Then the suspect fled down the bike trail along I-205, firing shots as he ran off, according to Lt. Robert King with the Portland Police Bureau.

A witness called 9-1-1 for help and officers arrived quickly with a K-9 tracking team.

Detectives later found and arrested 21-year-old David Toedtemeier. He was booked in the Multnomah County Detention Center on charges including robbery and a parole violation, King said.

Witnesses also told police the man had a gun and was hiding it under his shirt.

Neither the Good Samaritan nor the woman were injured.
