PORTLAND – A 27-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder after a shooting and high-speed chase early Saturday morning, police said Monday.
Officers pursued Joshua Steven Baker after he was suspected of shooting 38-year-old Vadim V. Kobenko at the Hathaway Apartments in the 3300 block of Southeast 134th Avenue, said Lt. Robert King of the Portland Police Bureau.
Baker crashed his truck into a fence at Northeast 148th Avenue and Northeast San Rafael Street around 4 a.m., King said.
Officers shot at Baker after he crashed, but he still refused to comply with police. Authorities then called in the Special Emergency Response Team to take him into custody.
Baker was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and a firearm was located at the scene. He was later lodged in the Multnomah County Jail for charges of assault and attempted murder, police said Monday.
Kobenko was listed in critical condition at a Portland-area hospital.
