PORTLAND -- Two men were stabbed outside a Dollar Tree store in Northeast Portland Tuesday morning, police said.
Crews were called just after 9 a.m. to the report of a stabbing near Northeast 11th Avenue and Broadway Street, according to Portland Police Sgt. Pete Simpson.
"The first victim came out of the Dollar Tree store and found his backpack missing, but saw a woman with it nearby," Simpson said. "The man asked why she had the backpack and demanded it be returned, when her male companion stabbed the victim."
Simpson said a witness pepper-sprayed the male suspect, who then stabbed the witness.
Both victims ran onto a nearby bus to try and get help, according to a TriMet spokeswoman. The men were later hospitalized with stab wounds that were not thought to be life-threatening.
The suspects, a 32-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, were arrested at Northeast 9th Avenue and Broadway Street. Their names will be released after they have been booked into jail, Simpson said.
