NEWPORT, Ore – Police chased down and captured the suspect wanted in a string of burglaries in Newport Wednesday night.
Jared Dunmire, 25, of Newport was wanted in several burglaries and thefts that began in early January.
A detective spotted him in an SUV on Hwy 101 at NE 11th Street, just before 5 p.m. and tried to pull the vehicle over. But the driver, Amanda Nicole Brown, 23, of Dallas, instead sped off and led officers on a high-speed pursuit.
Newport police were assisted by Lincoln County deputies and Toledo police during the chase.
“The pursuit continued on Hwy 20 until Brown attempted to make a high-speed turn onto Pioneer Mountain Loop Road, lost control, and crashed into the guard rail. Both Brown and Dunmire fled the vehicle on foot after the crash,” said Sgt Tom Simpson, with the Newport Police Department.
Dunmire was captured after fighting with an officer near the crashed vehicle, Simpson said. Brown fled into the nearby gully, but was caught as she tried to wade through a creek.
Brown was lodged in the Lincoln County Jail. Due to the parole warrant, no bail was set.
Dunmire was lodged at the Lincoln County Jail on two counts of burglary and theft. His bail was set at $150,000 and police said additional charges were pending.
Anyone with additional information that may help investigators was asked to contact officers Purdom and Auborn at the Newport Police Department by calling 541- 574-3348.
