PORTLAND - A man suspected of firing a heavy-duty bear spray into a group of bicyclists on Sauvie Island has been sentenced to undergo a mental health evaluation.

Kenneth Tester was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty earlier in May. Following the mental evaluation, he may need to seek treatment.  He was also prohibited from possessing any weapons, including bear spray.

In January, Tester got into an argument with three cyclists on Sauvie Island after they said he backed into one of them in a grocery store parking lot. He eventually used the bear spray to attack them.

Tester was undergoing chemotherapy at the time of the incident, which may have contributed to his behavior, according to his attorney Lisa Ludwig.
