SALEM, Ore. -- A pickup being chased by police plowed through a chain-link fence and damaged several headstones at Pioneer Cemetery in Salem.
Salem Police Lt. Dave Okada tells the Statesman Journal that the driver fled after his truck became stuck, and he was still at large late Friday.
The incident began when officers responded to a report of a reckless driver about 2 a.m. Friday and tried to make a traffic stop.
The cemetery's website says it's Salem's largest historic cemetery and commemorates deaths from as early as 1841.
