SALEM, Ore. (AP) -- A 50-pound pit bull dog attacked and killed a small dog in an unfenced back yard Wednesday evening in Salem.
Police say the small dog's owner suffered a bite wound on her hand, trying to save her pet in the 9:30 p.m. attack.
She said the pit bull ran into her back yard in the 500 block of Tryon Avenue NE, bit the small dog on the head and began shaking it.
The pit bull was later captured and taken to Marion County Dog Control. The pit bull was wearing a leather collar and metal pinch collar, but no tags.
It did have a chip that identified it as "Hank" and animal control and police officers were trying to find the owner. The original owner listed on the chip said the dog was given away and the second owner said the dog was again given away.
Anyone with information was asked to call the Salem at (503) 588-6123 or Marion County Dog Control at (503) 588-5366.
