SALEM – Police shot a suspect after the report of an armed robbery in Salem Friday night.
The Salem Police Shift Commander confirms the shooting shortly before 8 p.m. Friday night, in the 2500 block of Commercial Street SE.
The robbery suspect was shot and wounded, but was not believed to have life-threatening injuries, Lt. Jim Anglemier told KGW. The officer was not injured.
Officers were responding to a robbery call at Kinko's when the suspect fired at them as they arrived on scene, Anglemier said. Police returned fire.
An employee of nearby Skyline Ford said he heard multiple shots just outside the car dealership. He went outside and saw a man lying in the street with a weapon beside him and money scattered around.
Oregon State Police were called in to investigate the shooting.
