PHILOMATH, Ore. -- A Philomath man was arrested for spanking his 1-year-old son an estimated 50 to 60 times, a Eugene TV station reported.
The man was arrested after a daycare worker found bruises on the baby's buttocks, according to KEZI-TV.
Benton County Jail records show 21-year-old Brealan Mosieur was arrested February 7 and charged with first-degree criminal mistreatment.
Mosieur told police he had put his son in time-out, "but it didn't work," KEZI reported. So he picked the boy up from his play pen and spanked him five or six times. Then he repeated that whole process about ten times.
The documents showed that Brealan said he was trying not to hurt his child, but wanted to convey the message that tantrums were not acceptable.
