PORTLAND -- A member of a North Portland Masonic Lodge arrived at the building Thursday morning and found that racist graffiti had been spray-painted onto the building and 3 surrounding food carts.

The images and words included several swastikas, death threats and racial slurs on the Sons of Haiti Grand Lodge at North Mississippi and Fremont.

“I was angered then cautious, with the words it said it was a threat," said Curtis Hicks, who spotted the graffiti. "Our building has been tagged before with gang graffiti, but nothing like this directed at us as a people. It’s a hate crime absolutely. It just sickens me.”

Detectives were asking anyone with information regarding this case to call detective Kevin Warren at 503-823-3761.

Crime Stoppers was also offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest in the case. Callers can remain anonymous.
