PORTLAND -- The Portland Thunder kicked off its first season Monday night at the Moda Center.
The energy was electric from the start. Fans raced to the makeshift team store and bought as much gear as they could get their hands on.
"We've been so excited about this," said Eric Dominguez. "Finally got football to Portland."
It was one of those moments fans could not help but capture. The glow of cell phone cameras helped illuminate the arena during player introductions.
"I think it's great," said Barrett Bicha. "I just love football in general."
At arena football games, the fans get to sit right on top of the action.
"It's almost like basketball scores in football," said Dominguez. "Nothing more exciting."
"I love the environment," added Alexa Holem. "Everyone is so excited."
Despite the excitement, the Thunder lost its home opener to San Jose. The team plays the Iowa Barnstormers Monday, March 24 in Portland.
