PORTLAND – Mayor Charlie Hales and the Portland City Council held a public meeting Thursday night to address an estimated $21 million budget shortfall.
Some of the programs that could be on the chopping block include the Portland Police Bureau mounted patrol and Parks and Recreation services like the Buckman Pool swimming programs.
Hales asked for a ten percent cut from each bureau’s budget. He will reveal his final budget proposal on May 1.
A final public meeting is scheduled for May 16 at City Hall. City Council is expected to adopt the final budget by June 20.
