PORTLAND -- The city of Portland is offering at least 70 additional beds for women battling homelessness starting November 19, City Commissioner Nick Fish announced.
The Women’s Winter Shelter will open in near the Bud Clark Commons at 655 Northwest Hoyt Street in Portland, providing a warm place for women to sleep.
Women can check in between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to reserve a spot for the night.
A woman who fled domestic violence and was on the streets for a time told KGW that the shelter helped her turn her life around.
“I was able to connect with a really good case manager through transition projects and I have a studio of my own and I've had it for three months now,” she said.
Anyone looking for information about winter shelters can dial 211 and donations are always welcome.
