PORTLAND – Police recovered the Portland Bureau of Transportation Director’s stolen bicycle and arrested a suspect Thursday.

Leah Treat who was hired as director of PBOT in June, tweeted a picture of her bike “Beatrice” after it was stolen Friday outside the Portland Building.

On Thursday, officers were helping the PBOT clean up the sidewalk along Terry Schrunk Plaza when 39-year-old Jason Lee Elmore rode up on a familiar-looking bicycle, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.

Police recognized the bike from Treat’s tweet.

Elmore was promptly arrested on theft charges.

“Beatrice” was returned to Treat.
