PORTLAND – A small group of firefighters from the Portland Metro area were heading to Peru Monday to help train emergency responders there.
Deadly flooding hit Peru back in January and the Portland-area firefighters said they planned to teach Peruvian crews how to perform swift-water rescues.
The Oregonians will be there about two weeks and organizers said the training mission may end up turning into a humanitarian effort, too. Because many people still need medical attention.
The firefighters may also help rebuild homes during their mission in Peru.
