Groups protesting former VP Gore's visit to Portland

PORTLAND -- Hours before former Vice President Al Gore was scheduled to speak at Keller Auditorium Wednesday, someone sprayed graffiti on the downtown Portland building.

The graffiti had messages that appeared to target Gore's environmental views. The steps of the auditorium were tagged with this message "Change the system not your light bulbs." The front of the building was spray-painted "Don't buy false solutions" and the side of the building read "Climate justice not CO2 trading" in large black lettering.

It was unclear who tagged the building. Portland Police officers were investigating and called out a crew which had the graffiti erased from the building by 11 a.m., long before the former Vice President's arrival.

But at least two groups planned on protesting Gore's visit.  PETA said it would confront Gore Wednesday, before his environmental speech called "Our Choice" -- a call to action against global warming.  The group said the former Vice President should be a vegetarian because eating meat contributes to global warming.

Another group called "Americans For Prosperity" also planned to hold an event criticizing Gore's global warming views.

Gore's speech at Keller Auditorium was scheduled for 7:30 p.m Wednesday.  On Thursday, the former Vice President was scheduled to headline a fundraiser for Democrat Bill Bradbury's campaign for governor. That event will start at 10:30 a.m. in North Portland.

Officials with the Portland Center for the Performing Arts, which operates the Keller Auditorium, were concerned by the graffiti and responded quickly.

“We are extremely disappointed that anyone would deface a community treasure like Keller Auditorium. The prompt response by Portland Police is greatly appreciated and we are also grateful for the assistance provided by Portland Clean & Safe to successfully remove the graffiti,” a statement from PCPA said.

With any luck the meat eating, multi-millionaire author of "A Very Lucrative Exaggeration" will get run over by a bio-diesel powered bus. Moving away from fossil fuels is not just a good idea, it's necessary. But perpetrating a hoax to re-distribute wealth from "rich" countries like the USA to those who are "less fortunate" (do any of you REALLY believe that CHINA is less fortunate?) with a cap and tax treaty is CRIMINAL...

Defiling a public building is disgraceful. I don't care what the political motivation, the act of vandalism shows disdain for civilization. I hope the criminals are caught and punished quickly.

I admire Al Gore and don't think he is trying to pull a fast one over on anyone. He is concerned about climate change and is trying to help find solutions. However, he might do well to look at the play book of Ed Begley Jr. another passionate environmentalist and put his money where is mouth is. Ed's philosophy is that we all need to take whatever actions we can to conserve energy while our governments try to get their acts together.

They both have freedom of speech. I do not know if spraying a public or private building qualifys for our founding fathers thought on our constitution, but it happened. Oh, lets all go to the tagger 's house and spray their walls.

This embarrassing hate crime demands an immediate investigation by all the resources Co-President's Shelly and Barack Nippon-Bowing Harwood Obama's Justice Department can muster. Once again, the sick legions of Bush/Cheney/Reagan global warming causing jihadists have sent their covert agents into Portland to defame and mock Oscar winner,Nobel Laureate, and renown scientist Al Gore and his progressive entourage with racist and homophobic vandalism. How are our global sisters and brothers going to view the behavior of both the citizens and undocumented Americans living in Portland now as a result of this Bush launched assault? More importantly, what will the French think? The daily environmental assault on Mother Earth and the Moon by the Bush junta must stop at once and those responsible for this latest felony should be prosecuted without mercy.

Hey vegan - it appears the KGW Kommrades have censored my comment. Let's try again. Gore's movie is full of false information. In the UK, the movie was to be shown to school children. There was a law suite brought by scientist stating that 9 points are false. The judge rules in the scientists favor. Schools could show the film as long as the 9 false points were discussed. I wonder - why won't Gore walk his own talk???????????????

Al Gore isn't trying to pull a fast one? Really? He's made over $100M pushing the global warning propaganda. Note that they are now marketing it as "climate change" when actual facts came to light that the planet was in fact not getting hotter. As responsible people sharing this planet we should all focus on sensible activites that help preserve the environment. However, that's not what he peddles. He pushes for programs that give him and has cabal more power and more money. As they said during Watergate......follow the money. Do that and you'll find much of what is driving this global change propoganda is a movement to redistribute wealth in this planet and make some key people (Al Gore) lots of money. The best was when questioned why he still eats meat he scoffed at that notion essentially saying it had little to do with global warming even though the report he so often refers to in his film indentifies it as the #1 contributor.

Those that can't argue with good facts and inteligent reasoning resort to demonizing the opposition. Being called a flat-earther just because you have legitimate questions about the flawed data around global warming is just one small example. Demonizing the opposition is a classic method of attacking dissent. It's being used quite effectively now around several issues.

Go to your favorite video hosting site and search for "The Great Global Warming Swindle" to learn about the 'anthropogenic cause' of global warming debate. My favorite part discusses Al Gore's huge graph that shows that climate and CO2 are directly related however upon closer analysis, the truth is that CO2 levels actually LAG the warming of the climate by 800 years. Clouds and farts are stronger greenhouse gasses than CO2.
